Last tuesday an image of a black hole and its shadow has been captured for the first time. Several of the missions were part of a large effort to observe the same black hole using different wavelengths of light and collecting different information to understand the black holes’ enviroment. THIS GREAT New discovery was thanks to the hard work and effort of Katie Bouman. Accompained by her team, they created the algorithm to be able to see this image.
I think this is an amazing discovery and it would have been even more amazing if Stephen Hawking would have been here to see it <3

    Thank you Consuelo for your comment. I saw the picture published in the newspaper. What is more amazing is that if I am not mistaken the picture was taken in Chile or partially with our telescopes.

    It's incredible that nowadays our specie is capable of take photographs of things that exist incredibly far away of our planet. I can't imagine what will be the next photo taken in those lenses and how incredible will it be. I also read that with the lens that they took the photo of the black hole, a person would be capable of reading the newspaper being in New York when the newspaper is in Paris. I can't wait to see what are we going to discover in the next years!!!

    I think it is amazing how scientific research has evolve over the years, it is incredible how something that was unimaginable a few years from now is now a reality, this is one of the subjects that impresses me the more, the existence of things in our universe more than a thousand times bigger than our planet, it is amazing how small we are in our universe and how many things are there still to discover.

10-minute tornado hits Los Ángeles, Chile

Yesterday, 30th of May, in the middle of the storm that has been raging over the country, a tornado hit the southern city of Los Ángeles. The tornado formed around 18:00 and travelled about 3km in the 10 minutes it lasted, blowing roofs away, breaking windows and even rolling over a truck. The incident left around 6500 homes without electric power, 21 houses with severe damage, and at least 10 without a roof. According to Onemi, 16 people were injured, but none died. Additionally, a watersprout (an event similar to a tornado but formed over water) hit Yungay, Región de Ñuble, damaging 42 houses and injuring 168 people. Tornadoes are an unusual phenomenon in the country, but according to meteorologists it is not as rare as people might think. Study on twins of the effects of extended space flights

This Thursday, April 11, a study of the effects of long-term space travel was released in the Science Journal. What makes this study special is that the two subjects of the study are twins, Scot Kelly and Mark Kelly. Scott was sent on a mission to the International Space Station from March 2015 to March 2016, while Mark stayed on Earth the whole time. Scientists at NASA had been analyzing data since then, and have come up with very interesting results. First of all, scientists noticed that gene expression in Scott changed while he was in space. This does not mean that his genes actually changed, but rather that different genes were activated during the flight. More concretely, three main changes were observed. First, his gut microbiome changed dramatically during the flight, but returned to normal after coming back.
