One student thinks that the billionaire is lying. The president of the college says that this is the first time that he sees something like this. The billionaire is going to give the students $40 million. Each student has a student loan of around $48,000. In the USA, many college students have student loans. Last year, the student loans are about $1.5 trillion in the USA. Great initiative for rich people to spend some of their money in education.

consequences of climate change

Climate change played a role in the deaths of thousands of puffins in Alaska, according to a study.  Scientists believe they died because of hunger.  The fish they eat migrated north sea due to the high temperatures. The bodies of dead, emaciated puffins began washing up on beaches on Saint Paul Island in autumn 2016.  Up to 9,000 puffins and other seabirds died over the course of a few months because of the same reasons, US scientists say.  And climate-driven shifts in fish populations, combined with the start of migration, may have caused this mass die-off. The findings add to fears that rising temperatures are having unpredictable effects on birds, bats and other wildlife. what do you think about climate change?, how can we solve this problems?
Yesterday, May 29, there were very strong winds in Santiago. This winds exceeded 80 km/h and more than 600 trees fell, also there were interruptions of electric service in many communes of the Metropolitan Region. But this didn't happened because the winds were too strong, it was because Santiago isn't prepared to handle heavy weather, since almost every time it rains more than usual we can see floods and power outages, in contrast in cities like Valdivia were 300 days in the year it rains and this barely has an impact in the citizens that live there. What is your opinion on this?

USA Huawei Ban

Recently, with technological advances coming from every country, tension has risen to determine who will be the first country to developed a fully fleshed 5G communications system. A company from China called Huawei, has made several advances and was planning to give its services to a great part of Europe and other parts of the world. However, due to previous suspicions of spying from the Chinese goverment and a supposedly stealing of vital government information, the USA has decided to ban Huawei from doing business with any company from the United States of America without a previous approval from the goverment. In addition to this, the USA has urged its allies and economical partners to cut ties with Huawei, threatening to stop sharing confidential information with them. As a consequence, the Chinese company has been cut from using services such as Google, processors from Intel and Qualcomm, and software from Microsoft and other US companies, leading to a dip in sales and a b...

On Monday morning, a 14-year-old student was shot and wounded after an incident occurred inside Patagonia College, in the city of Puerto Montt. The information given indicates that the child received the bullet at the height of his neck and was sent to an urgent care center, in which he remains out of life risk. The attacker was a classmate, who with a camouflage jacket and a mask, tried to go unnoticed. Later he tried to escape, but was captured by a teacher from the same school. This is the first case seen of a school shooter in Chile, something that has been seen in the past recent years in the United  States.
Why this year has been so dangerous for Mount Everest's climbers: Everest has always been extremely dangerous, but this climbing season has had 11 deaths so far, that are not related to one event as it usually is, but to several factors. Mountaineers have suggested difficult weather conditions, a lack of experience and the growing commercialization of expeditions are contributing to the danger.   During the week beginning May 20, crowds of climbers became stuck in a queue (fila) to the summit (cima), above the mountain's highest camp at 8,000 meters. Most people can only spend a matter of minutes at the summit without extra oxygen supplies, and the area where mountaineers have been delayed is known to many as the "death zone." (It causes high altitutes sickness) Alan Arnette, who has climbed Everest four times, explained that Nepal issued a record number of permits to foreigners this year. Because each of them requires a Sherpa guide, there are about 800 pe...
Deadly tornadoes , historic flooding and record-breaking heat waves are hitting parts of the central and southern United States, resulting in at least five deaths in a span of a week. Still can’t believe how some people don’t care about climate change and pollution while things like this keep happening.
The Chilean athlete Juan Pablo Mohr made history in the world of mountaineering by conquering Everest summit on Thursday without supplementary oxygen, being the first national to do so under these conditions. When the clock read 2:18 a.m. Chilean time, it reached 8,849 meters above sea level of the highest peak in the world. In case of achieving his feat he would become the first athlete in the world to hold this record. I think he is very brave and strong, It is good to see Chileans representing Chile on sports.
Yesterday Henrikh Mkhitaryan, a football player from Arsenal announced he is not travelling with his team to the Europe League final against Chelsea that is going to be hosted in Baku, Azerbaijan. The reason? Armenia, Henrikh Mkhitaryan's country has been in conflict with Azerbaijan since the XX century due to territorial reasons. Nevertheless Azerbaiyan diplomatics have declared that all the security requierements have been taken with the objective that the player is able to play this important final but he has insisted in not travelling in order to protect his integrity. My opinion is that if the declaration of Azerbaijan is honest the player shouldn't be afraid to travel to this country unless there are political reasons involved. What do you think? Should Henrikh travel with his team or should he stay at England and watch the game at home?
Christian Garin champion of the Munich ATP On May 5, Christian Garin defeated Matteo Berrettini in the final of the ATP in Munich in 3 sets. It was a very difficult match for the Chilean player, who had to suffer to get the result. With this victory Garin will be number 33 of the ATP ranking, being one of the best young players of today. Do you think that Garin will be as good as Massú and Gonzalez were?

Glasgow aims to be the UK'S first "net-zero" city

Glasgow has unveiled plans to become the first city in the UK to reduce its greenhouse emissions to "net-zero", one of them is to include mass charging points throughout the city for electric vehicles. Net-zero is the point where the same volume of greenhouse gases is being emitted as it is being absorbed, by trees for example. Glasgow City Council and Scottish Power say they will work on a range of programmes to help the city reach this target before 2045. What do you think about this? Are these changes necessary at the moment?
Carbon dioxide levels hit landmark at 415 ppm, highest in human history May 14, 2019 The past five years have been the warmest years since records began in the late 1800s, according to NASA and NOAA. The temperature rise cannot be explained by natural factors, scientists said. In the past 20 years, the world's temperature has risen about two-thirds of a degree Fahrenheit, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration said. What is your opinion on these alarming indicators? Is it important for the different countries to start taking measures to stop the damage?

Impact of climate change:

Climate change is having an impact on frogs found in British ponds, research suggests. A deadly frog disease is spreading due to warmer temperatures and in the next 50 years could cause entire populations to vanish, according to a study.  The virus could spell disaster for the common frog, which is a familiar sight in garden ponds and the countryside.  Amphibians have been particularly hard hit by changes in the natural world. 4  out of 10 species are on the edge of extinction globally due to factors such as disease, habitat destruction and climate change. The research looked at a disease known as ranavirus, which can kill a large number of frogs in a short time. At present, the disease is confined largely to England, but climate change could lead to spread across the UK and earlier in the year. If the disease were to hit tadpoles in spring, then whole populations could disappear "almost overnight", said the researchers. what do you think about climate change?, h...
Yesterday (7/05/19) one student was killed and eight were injured in a school shooting in Colorado, Usa. The police hasn't reveiled the identity of the shooters yet but it is believed that it was carried out by two two students; a boy and a girl. It took place in the middle school and witnesses declare that the victim, who was identified as 18 year-old Kendrick Castillo who was graduating in three more days, tackled the student in order to give the others time to escape but died in the attempt. This type of news make me really angry because american politicians knows that the real solution to this problem is implementing a tougher policy on control but like many of them are being payed or are related to weapon factories they prefer to implement inefective policies such as metal detectors or even allowing teachers to carry guns and is more than clearer that this is not working and I don't think is fair that kids have to study in that environment and continue to die because of n...
