A powerful X-ray telescope was launched yesterday
The Spektr-RG telescope was launched yesterday, July 13th, in Russia. It uses X-rays to map the entire sky with a lot of detail. Researchers say this will help them to understand the structure of the universe. The hope is Spektr-RG can provide fresh insights on the accelerating behaviour of cosmic expansion. And it should also recieve X-rays from the black holes that reside in our galaxy. But before it can begin working, it will take many weeks before it reaches its observing position which is 1.5 million km from earth.
