The Amazon jungle has been burning for 18 days, with fires that have caused an ecological and public health tragedy, in the region that comprises much of the central and northern territory of South America.
The situation has been declared as a 'state of environmental emergency' that can cause complications for the inhabitants of that territory, who could be affected by respiratory diseases.
According to the National Space Research Institute (INPE) of Brazil, forest fires have increased 83 percent so far this year compared to the same period in 2018. The agency has registered 72,843 fires, the highest number since Records began in 2013.
